Common Crawlspace Foundation Repairs That Are Problematic

Adding More Foundation Vents

Using Fiberglass Insulation for a Damp Crawlspace
Insulating the space is fine, but you have to utilize the right materials or else you could have some major issues on your hands. Fiberglass, when it gets wet and absorbs moisture, is very susceptible to allowing for the growth of mold. It can also get very heavy and eventually fall to the ground. There is a chance that it could start to rot the wood if the insulation is stapled to it since the fiberglass will trap moisture against the wooden elements of a crawlspace.
Venting a Dryer Into Your Crawlspace
This can cause gallons of water to be pumped into the air of your crawlspace. Since warm air rises, this can then move upward into the wood parts of your crawlspace and foundation. Speaking of ducts, you also want to avoid using fiberglass to insulate the heat ducts. This can cause the fiberglass to essentially soak up the excess water as a result of condensation. Over time, this can result in the growth of mold in the fiberglass around the duct.
Improperly Installing Drainage Systems
After heavy rains, it is not uncommon for there to be standing water on the ground floor. It is important that this water is properly removed or prevented. A sump pump by itself is not able to properly remove all of the pooling water in the middle of the crawlspace or around the perimeter. You also want to ensure that a perimeter drain is properly installed.
