Soil conditioning underway for the supreme backfill material. Big thanks to @crapseymike for producing the rock screen.
I can’t wait to put our newest piece of equipment into service tomorrow on our Nederland foundation backfill for Hadford Home Construction. **Call Jerry Hadford (303-249-5800) if you need a new house built or an existing one remodeled. He runs a tight ship and gets it done.” This rocks screen allows us to condition native site soils onsite without having to import structural fill thereby saving our homeowners money that can be strategically used elsewhere.
Without this screen, we would need to import an estimated to 20 dump trucks to complete this under-slab backfill. Without the ability to screen our native material, and at $500/Dumptruck were saving this project an estimated $10,000 in ground work straight outta the gate.
This is a the High Performance way.
This screen screens our native material to 3”- meaning we’re screening out cobbles and boulders to create a wonderfully compactable fill.
Geek out on soil and compaction with me below.
Fun fact:
Silt & clay = <.07
Sand = 4mm - .07mm
Gravel = 3”- 3/16”
Cobbles = 3”-12”
Boulders = 12”+ Road base, which is engineered to achieve perfect compaction, has every grain size from gravel down to microscopic grain size-clay. The gravel provides the structure and the sand and clay particles fill the microscopic air pockets as long as the appropriate moisture levels are maintains during compaction. Moisture is the lubricant that helps the particles slide into place for complete compaction and maximum density.
On this job-site, we are dealing with with a soil known as a glacial till (simply till if you’re Cam). Glacial till is essentially perfect road base in that it has every soil type mixed in for a great structural fill aside from the large boulders that tend to come with it. We’re screening out the boulders. ;-) So we have a great native soil onsite for our backfill but we have to condition it a bit.
Earthwork brothers, we can get you one if you want one. DM me if you’re interested.
This is custom job from Rock Mountain Customs.
